1955 evinrude pull cord

just bought a 55 15hp. the pull cord broke after a few pulls, is this some kind of special cord? what would be good to use?

Hi, U can get the pull cord at a hardware store, take the old one out and measure the length and bring a peice with you to match it up....bob

1955 had the wire core cord with an anchor on the end. Yes, you can use nylon. And if you pull it all the way to the end it will cut the knot off. Get used to not pulling it so far. Better yet, drill and pin it like the newer motors.

You probably wrecked the recoil spring when the rope broke.
