1955 evinrude 7.5 hp carb and starting

Frustrated!
motor sounded like it wanted to start a few times - I could tell it was getting a good spark. after 5-7 pulls it seems like it's no longer getting a spark on either cylinder. you can here the difference - will check spark tonight....

Could I be doing something wrong with the set up or issue with the flywheel ?? I did use the magneto ring to make sure spacing was correct.

One thing that I'm focusing on is, the coil test readouts OL from coil ground wire to the plug wire connection. I suppose I could bring the coils somewhere to test..... just pretty sure I'm testing correctly. Have any of you pro's received bad coils (new ordered on Ebay) ?

Could the issue be the flywheel \ spacing - I find that unlikely.

Those magnetos are elegantly simple.----Used from 1950 to 1990 on 1.5 to 40 HP.----Does spark jump a gap of 1/4" or more on both leads , yes or no ?

No, only the top piston lead has good spark....

Prior to installing them I test with my multimeter (digital Klein MM300 using 200 and 200K setting). Primary comes back fine but secondary comes back with OL i.e. no continuity. Tells me the coil is bad.

The coil I received has a threaded connector for the ignition wire, So I'm screwing in the wire. Again - before that, if there's no continuity to the secondary wire - How could a spark be created ? That said I did install the coils as is - just grabbed the spark plug end and pulled LOL. I did feel a very weak current.

Change both coils, not only one of them!!!
They are cheap and the one you do not change will fail soon.
BTW. When you check with your VOM for resistance, the VOM put out the battery voltage the VOM is supplied with.
Maybe 4.5, 6 or 9 Volt depending on brand.

Thanks - I ordered 2 more from ebay - suppose to be OEM... sending the others back. If anyone has a recommended supplier that would be great. 0/4 not a good record.

CDI Electronics and Sierra have those replacement coils.
Should be many dealers or web shops that have them.
Master Tech Marine is one on the web.
