So the check valve was removed and EUREKA!!! it fired up, I aslso placed the spring on the float and replaced the lower portion of the carb with an old 18hp from 1960 they matched up just right, now the only thing is to set the needles right. It started and iddled nicely, then while in forwar and on high, it reved up like crazy, yes! scared the crap out of me, so shut it down and tried in forward low, but couls not stay on. I know all of this has payed off cause it starts and iddles without me pumping the gas into it. I will read up on the needles settings and try again on my day off. Thanks for all the great advise has gotten me this far. Have a safe 4th of July!!

glad to see that you're making progress! .....quick question tho, was the motor white and you painted it green....or is it two different motors?

The green motor pictured above is mine. Navster's motor is the second set of pictures, painted white on the outside but still original green under the cowling.

Glad to hear you've got it running Navster. I think the needle settings are out one and a quarter turns each as a starting point. Somewhere in that vicinity should get you running pretty good, then adjust a little from there. Congrats on getting it converted over to fuel pump and idling.
