1951 Evinrude 7.5 Hp questions

Hello-- a couple of questions for the experts on this forum:

1.) Was is the recommended torque for the bolt that hold the fly wheel over the coils?
2.) What is the process to remove the handle located under the tiller -- mine is broken an I am planning on replacing it?
3.) How do you tell if the spark plug wired are connected to the correct cylinder? (Twin cylinders on this motor)

Ok

1. 40 ft/lbs
2. Are you sure you want to know?
3. The coil directly above the carb will feed the TOP cylinder. The coil aft feeds the bottom cylinder. There should be a metal band on one of the wires hopefully? That is for the TOP cylinder.

Are you still looking for the handle?

All-- so it sounds like the handle replacement is quite a job? Am I correct on that? Any details on what would have to be done would be appreciated so that I can decide --- do I want to do this or not. Also, thanks for the clarification on which spark plug wires go to which cylinders. I am still looking for a tiller handle (the handle with the screw driver that srews into the tiller) for this motor but am going to go look a a parts motor on Sunday so I may have this resolved as of that date. The guy wants $30.00 for motor and say that it ran 10 years ago. ---Thanks Again--- Gregg

Yeah, there is no easy way to tell you how to replace the carry handle bit. You just gotta dive in... Take pics if needed for reference. It's not difficult, and there isn't any rocket science involved - it's just time consuming...

As Scott stated above, it takes a bit. The powerhead has to come off, then everything above the handle.

I have a parts motor as well. I have the tiler handle, the black grip cracked though when someone tried to unscrew the screwdriver previously. Not the greatest specimen but it is all there.
