So I've watched the videos on the OMC ignition servicing but, I'm looking more specifically for a video or link on how to fabricate newer coils on the old 49 model Johnson QD-10 or the like. I know these old coils are obsolete and can no longer be purchased new but there are some people who have converted the old coils to retro fit a newer style coil on a older ignition system. I'm just curious as to how and would be interested in trying myself. I'd like to try and manipulate the old coil lamentations first before trying to drill out the mag plate. (But if need be I'm up for anything) I pretty much got this motor for nothing with an aluminum boat I purchased. It would start with a small amount of carb cleaner but wouldn't continue to run on it's own. So I've pulled off the carb and clean it and replace most of the gaskets that could be found. I'm still searching for a new float for the fuel bowl it's the last piece I need for the carb. I've cleaned and Chem dipped the carb, valve needles, took apart the glass bowl and cleaned it to new looking state, replaced the rubber gasket under the glass bowl, replaced the spark plugs (which were black and oily), and I'd like to rebuild the entire ignition system and bought an impeller rebuild kit for the lower unit. Did I miss anything? Just thought it would be neat to have an old vintage outboard that was restored and in good working condition. I'll try to post some pics once I figure out how.
