the float sticks in this motor. made a new float with a new piece of cork that i pick up from the hardware store. But it worked for a while until it soak with gas and started leaking. Do i have to treat the cork somehow to prevent it from soaking up with gas? Or should i just by a new float assembly for this outboard? any info will be helpful.

Welcome to Iboats!

Floats are no long available for that carb. You need to dry out the float you made and then varnish it to seal it. Traditionally people use shellac for this, but it's intolerant to the alcohol found in mondern fuels. I've gotten excellent milage from PVC cement. Model airplane dope is also popular.

There's a Mercury float that can be modified to fit as well, if you want to abandon your one.

I've got the very same motor (TD-20) with the very same problem. Wouldn't the gas/oil mix desolve the varnish in a short period of time?

Do you know the part number on the Merc float by any chance?

Steve
