Re: 1940 Starcraft

Wow that's pretty cool to have such an old Starcraft. Unfortunately we haven't located a brochure from that era yet:)

My understanding is that due to wartime needs/rationing, not many motors or boats were produced during those years. The big boom in production(of babies and everything else;)) didn't happen until '45-'49.

What I'm driving at here is that you probably have one of the only surviving boats made by Starcraft during the big war.

A keeper for sure. Good luck finding more info on the old girl:D

Oh...and also wanted to mention...we'd love to see some photos too!

Never heard of a Starcraft that old. You truly have a gem on your hands. Try to locate all photos from your family and any paperwork that may be still kicking around. I suspect the boat has been keep indoors when not in use for it to last that long. If that is the case this is where your hunt should begin. You may want to contact Starcraft to see if they can give you some history. During the war years they had shortages of aluminum for airplanes. Many a good boat was recycled into aircraft parts.

You got a keeper with that one. Picture please.

Re: 1940 Starcraft

Yes I have the original papers were my Greatgrandad's parents bought it new in 1940 in Michigan. Anyways it stayed there until the 70's when they passed away then my Greatgrandad got it and brought it back to Texas, no it hasnt been stored indoors until now, I just got it last weekend. I believe it originally had no paint just metal. His wife had painted it blue inside white outside with flowers. Most of the outside paint is flaking off. I'm about to repaint it. We were talking about rhinolining the inside gray, but I dont think so being that old of a classic boat. It would just ruin it. So how do I upload the pics to a post?

Re: 1940 Starcraft

Well until he get's them uploaded you can see it in my avatar deal, it's the only one it let me upload, it said others were to big. Those pics were taken yesterday at the beginning of work now more of the flower paint is gone and when I get off here I'm going to take all paint off down to metal. Any suggestions as to what kind of paint to use when repainting it?

The proper size for posting is 640x480. You can resize them using your photo viewing software. Many sign up to Photobucket for free and use that to post pics from. On Photobucket you can set the size to 640x480 and as the pics upload, they will automatically resize. Easy enuff.
Then when you post in your thread here, you simply click on the yellow pic box, then copy the "http photobucket link, aka img code" and click, done.

As far as painting, the Holiday you see in my avatar was done with Rustoleum, not marine just good old trusty rusty. I may have 50.00 to 75.00 bucks in paint on her.
Also look at Andy in NY's boat and our good buddy RickAirMedic's resto as they also used this paint with great results.

Yes I have been looking at Rustoleum Marine Paint, I now have the boat to bare metal, we were going to use an old trick and rub it down with vinegar, let it dry, and paint it. What are yall's suggestion as far as do I need to use a primer first then paint or stick with the Vinegar and then paint it?

If ya have it down to bare metal, then I'd strongly recommend a zinc chromate primer before paint. Otherwise your paint will bubble and peel off in no time.
