Hello all

I have a 1939 1.8hp Johnson that has a a knob on top of the fuel cap. Do I need to have that open when I start the motor? If so do I need to close it after the motor starts?

I’ve seen that style of gas cap on several type of older motors. Would it be the same on any motor that has that type?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. One more question. How would the motor run if it was closed while running?

????----As fuel runs into the carburetor air must be let into the tank.----Motor will stop running if vent is not open.

Have fun with that engine, just make sure to put enough Oil in the Gas. 16:1 or 12:1. Hopefully there is some indication on the Fuel Tank

Johnson Service Manual doesn't show a 1.8hp in 1939. Actually it doesn't show a 1.8hp in any Year
Do you have a Model #?

I thought it might be an Evinrude, but the OP said Johnson, in the Post
