This last weekend I purchased a 78' four winns that is in great condition, new int and new gel coat!! Looks great and Runs great! However I have several questions about the power plant...
I have been watching this board for a while as research before making the purchase and know that you all can provide the answers to these newbee questions... Any info would be great but here are the specific problems i have...

1. If i go full throtle off the start (pulling a skier) Sometimes the motor will die...

2. It seems semi quick to start but then it kind of bogs down a bit and then slowly planes out. Once on plane its great. Top speed of about 40. ( I don't know if this is motor related or not...)

3. The motor has a 2 brl. carb. Can i install a new 4 port intake and 4 brl carb?
Any info or direction on this would be Great!

Again Thanks in advance for all responses..
Great Board!

Re: 185 OMC

1 Remove the airbreather, and manually operate the throttle, while looking down the barrel. You should see a tiny stream of fuel, and hear a "hiss",lasting about a second or so. If you do not see this, the accilerator pump has failed.
That answers second question too, although, it could be timing if the acc pump checks out. And yes,you can mainfold it with a 4 port intake, and a qaudrojet (ka-ching,Ka-ching), but it will give you awesome hole shots :)

Re: 185 OMC

Thanks 12footer for the info!!!
It turns out that after some investigation and trial & error the primary issue was the Trim gauge is backwards, meaning when i thought the trim was down for launch is was actually up!!
Anyway it launches much better now, however i still want to do a build up on the motor.

Does anybody know what the basis is for this motor?? The distributor is in the back so it must be a SB chevy, But which one, 302, 305, 327, or 350. Any hints or info would be great!!!

Thanks again
