Anyone know where I might look for one of these for a Ford 302/351. Napa auto parts catalogues just show them for OEM specs of 160 deg's

Thanks Mainstreet but no. They sound like good thermostats but they are not 'Fail Open' type.

boomyal, I think I have heard of these. Are these the ones that still allow coolant flow even if the stat is stuck closed? If so, Could you copy the design some, I am thinking that there is 'just a hole' in the top side of the stat.
waddayathink?

.....sl

Acually Boomy, Mainstreet is talking about the same stuff as Aldo. The MotoRad Fail-Safe is a "fail open."

Re: 180 Deg Fail Open Thermostat??

I stand informed. I didn't see the fail open description on Mainstreets link, but they stated it clearly on Aldo's.

Turns out that my thermostat did not fail anyway. Even tho I tested it on the kitchen stove, I must have missed that it opened, 'cause a new one gave me the same results. After getting an infared themometer, I discover that my new sending unit is not compatible with my guage.

Just to clear up a typo.

The failsafe thermostats don't lock open if the thermostat fails, they lock open if the operating temp goes beyond a predetermined value.
