175 FICHT Starting Problem

I have 2 - 175 FICHT Outboards. Just replaced batteries with 2 Stowaway 1000/800a. Port starts. Starboard starter spins with no flywheel engagement. Any suggestions?

Clean all connections from battery to starter, including the ground side and connection to the engine block, until they are shiny and clean. Inspect the cable for nicks, which lead to internal cable corrosion and failure.

swap batteries , swap cables.

Thanks...indeed, I needed to change the negative battery cable. Any advice on routine maintenance for these motors. Both motors start fairly easily. Port motor starts with greater difficulty AFTER running to the first fishing destination (20-30minutes).
