i have a 175 ev just replaced head gaskets no leaks everthings ok expect one of the heads are hotter than the outher pulled thermostat looks like the orignal wat temp should it open at?? put in water on stove opened up barely at 120... also leaking water on top of motor on the thermo switch housing i think thats wat it is called . rite under the flywheel four bolts and two wires goin into it. any help very appreciated!!!

The year and model number would be helpfull.

One head is hotter, but what are the temps you're getting?

sounds like his rectifier is leaking order new gasket and be sure to clean gasket surface up and use the right sealer would help to know exactly what your working on

It's a 1987 I put my thermostat barely opened at 120 f in a pot of water on stove head seating surface was spotless took my time new water deflectors I will have model num later I'm not home

An 87 is a crossflow V6 with the bubbleback exhaust. That engine has a combination regulator/rectifier which is water cooled between the cylinders on the top of the engine. 6 bolts. That particular engine has the huge 35 amp charging system, with a high capacity regulator/rectifier and vented flywheel. I'd make a very close inspection of that regulator/rectifier to determine the real problem. With currents that go thru that specific device, they have been known to catch on fire when they start to go bad... Make sure you know what really is leaking. Water around that device is not good. Factory thermostats will start to open when they get to 143 degrees. The engine should idle between 143 and 155, depending on how cool the lake water is. You will get an overheat alarm at 212 degrees which will shut off when the cyl head gets back down to 175-still pretty hot.

Are these temps the same with the 1987 225hp evinrude's?
