Local surplus store has a large roll of fiberglass.
Bought a piece to check out. It is 13" wide on a roll about 200 > 300 foot long (est).
$1 per foot, = $9 per sq. yd. = no bargain, except savings on shipping ... which equals out pretty good considering US Composites current $'s. By my scale, it is right at 17 oz. yd. Should work well for tabbing and tight spots / corners as it will be cut up anyway ?
Also bought a quart of 3M Bondo (automotive ?) Polyester resin. Lowes big box has the same 3M Bondo resin in a gallon for $50.
Question: is that 3M Bondo resin the same as what is used for boats ? Is it compatible with other poly resins ?
Nothing on the can regarding wax, so is it safe to assume there is none ?
Thanks.

cant speak about the glass cloth, but I have used the Bondo resin a couple of times (using it on my current project). Have not had any issues getting a good bond with older glass when adding or repairing in my boats. No mention of wax, but I would not bet against it, there is no tack at all when the resin is cured. For FYI, Wally World in my area has that same gallon of Bondo resin for around $40 bucks. Lowes was the same as your price, $50 a gallon, and Autozone I think is getting $65 for that same gallon. The main upside to the Bondo resin is that I dont have to go searching for it quick fast and in a hurry if I run out, EVERYONE carries it.

Polyester resin has a shelf life, esp the hardener. Wally, Lowes & AutoZone don't sell large volumes, some find it poorly performing, probably due to age

Wasn't aware of the shelf life, maybe they rotate stock ? Seems they would for wear dated stuff, will check. Thanks !
Also, there is an auto paint / body supplier nearby that wants 70 gal for a different brand and keeps all of the catalyst at the checkout counter. Not sure why ? Thieves, UV exposure ? Leaking ? Protected storage ? minimize damage ? (small plastic tubes) Hardener for all of their stuff. gorilla hair, putty .... only place I see that done. Will ask next time.
Thanks again,
W
