I had a 115hp motor on my 16ft boat that recently blew and is not worth repairing. If I drop down to an 85hp motor will I notice a significant speed drop? Will I still be able to go fast enough to wakeboard?

Wakeboarding should not be an issue. Unless that boat is a real hog, it should hit 30-32MPH or so with the 85HP motor.

I have a 16 with a 90 on it and hit 42 MPH on GPS. After finding an issue that prevented the carbs from fully opening, I expect to better that next time out.

But certainly, an 85 horse will defiantly do fine handling water sports.

My boat is 16' with a 60HP OB. My speedo says 35mph with one adult and two kids on board.

What year is the 115,and the 85? They changed the hp ratings from prop to crank or vice versa years ago and there is about a 15% difference. So if you had a 1980 115 it might be equal to a 100 in todays rating. Not sure when they changed it.
