15hp identification

hi all, have just purchased a merc 15hp(off ebay), and found out it is made in Belgium?
the serial number is 9540095. is this correct, and what year is it made in?
also, would it be the same specification as the current US 15. it has the gear change
on the tiller
any advice is greatly appreciated

Are you sure it is a 15hp?

Can you give us the Numbers off the carb which should begin with WM?

numbers on top of carbie are, WMC
on the side XK1118, below that 170

I think that s/n started life as:

9,9 9.9 2-cyl 9504000 9546349 1988 Belgium (yes it is a Belgium made engine with a s/n beginning with 9)

Are you sure that number is 170 or could it be 17C

sorry, yes it is a 17C. it seems it is a 9.9, and i think(1988 model) is a smaller capacity so can't be derestricted
