I have an Evinrude 1998 or 1990 150 HP. My voltmer reads 16 volts. I suspect that the regulator needs replacing. Can someone tell me what it looks like and where it is located on the engine.

Thanks

Go to http://shop.evinrude.com and search through the electronics part catalog for your motor. There are complete motor diagrams there. It's a rectangular-ish box with a cable coming out of it that has 5 or 6 leads and runs to the terminal block

Thanks for the super fast reply. Went to the site as suggested. Can I assume that the parts is accessable without removing the flywheel?

No flywheel removal necessary. Just a gasket and four little screws.

Re: 150 HP voltage regulator

Thanks for the help guys. One more question. My assumption is that since my voltmeter is reading 16 volts, and my vhf radio gives me I have a high voltage warning that the problem is the regulator. Since this is a $200+ part, is there a way to test the regulator before I buy a replacement?
