I Am having a problem with a 1984 mariner 150 hp ! so from the top I replaced bad switch box to find the spark advance was bad so set timing to factory specs rebuild carbs clean out fuel tank and lines new primer bulbchecked compression in all cylinders ok! when in water it spits and sputers and is real hard to get on plane once on plane it has more response to throttle but still lacking power! any ideas or direction I should go in? thanks

You have spark on all cylinders? At both high and low speed?

Are idle mixtures adjustable? If so, they may be off. If not adjusable, are carb floats in good shape and set properly?

Re: 150 hp mariner

I do not understand your post. You set idle pickup timing and max spark advance. Once those are set, the advance should be right on.

Re: 150 hp mariner

Do test on stator, high rpm windings could be bad. Has happened to me on two different motors. Having a switch box fail can be due to a stator. Not a boat mechanic just my experience.
