Went from thinking overheat to realizing it was fuel restriction. I just removed the sending unit, the tank and fuel pickup in the tank were really clean. Could water in the tank somehow set off the alarm, by temporarily restricting flow at the filter? Could it mean the pump is bad? Is there a sensor which can be tested? I just syphoned all of the fuel out of the tank and am installing a new sending unit. The old one was really rotted and allowing some ( I am not sure how much) water to enter the tank. Last weeks test run, after removing the defective anti syphon valve went really well for about an hour, then the alarm went off. Only goes off when I try to go WOT. I can then idle and it will go off. What the heck? Appreciate you replies.

you may be sucking air from a leak in you fuel line ,try disconnecting your fuel line from the engine at the entry point . you can use a remote fuel tank and see if it stills alarm when running on the water that will let you know if the problem is in your tank or lines or after engine entry . I found my leak by disconnecting it from the tank putting a bolt in the line at the tank with a clamp on it then put 10-20 lb of air psi on the hose at the engine connection point back to the tank , it took 15 lb to show my leak . the leak was in the new primer ball I just installed . you can use this method with low psi right up to the carbs.dont put pressure on you carb ! you can use sope and water on all connection points and see if connections bubbles , if there is fuel in the line it will come out at the source of the leak so be care full and bleed pressure before removing bolt or connections ! good luck !

an air leak will not trigger the VACUUM switch.
only vacuum will trigger the switch.

what type of filters are you using?
are all the fuel lines in good shape?
sometimes the fuel lines kink and at wot there is enough vacuum on the system to trigger the alarm.
what size fuel line are you using ?
if you don't have a water fuel seperator get a good one. 10 micron will keep a lot of debris out .

Re: 150 HP 1995 What else may trigger the fuel restriction alarm.

Thanks for the replies JJB and Reeldutch. 21' Striper new to me. When I purchased the boat there were no filters in the fuel line at all. Only fuel filter was at the pump on the motor. I have removed the defective anti syphon valve and put in a small inline glass filter. Last test run was almost successful. I could see debris going into the glass filter. I have purchased a 10 micron fuel filter to install. My fuel line is 3/8". I have the fuel sender out so that I could syphon the tank and then replace with a new one(sender not tank). I am also installing new fuel line to the engine longer so as to avoid any possible kink although I did not see one I will need longer due to the new fuel water seperator. I will look under the cowl again to check my engine fuel lines and to clean out the filter at the pump again. Will post next week after another run. Will also bring an external tank with me to hookup should the alarm sound again. Thank you for your replies. Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks again.

Installed water fuel seperator, new fuel lines, cleaned out the tank and let it dry all week. Drained and replaced all fuel. Went out yesterday , no alarms ran great all day. Thanks for all of your imput.
