150 horse Johnson Gearcase problem

I just purchased a 1989 Johnson GT150 which supposedly just had the foot rebuilt, after being in the water for about two hours I checked the oil and it was full of water. I bought a repair manual and it shows a mechanical gearcase and a hydro mechanical gearcase. My question is how to tell the difference in the two. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

did you buy the correct OEM manual for your specific engine. or one of the aftermarkets.

You have a mechanical gear case.

It is a Clymer Manual that I purchased from the local Marine
