Force 150 '93 5 cyl
1)Is it normal for the carbs to leak with the engine tilted up? I noticed fuel pooling in the carb face plates.
2)The motor, up until recently used to start with the bump of the key without advancing the throttle or choking and even before choking or advancing throttle I smell strong Fuel. Now I have to do all that and most of the time it will not start, and when it does it smokes alot and runs for only a few seconds, seems like it dosent get spark on some of the attemps to start. I beleive maybe a short in the kill ground, ignition grounding out?Water in Fuel?
3) Also while running for 10 mins or so at 1/3 throttle,if i try to WOT it dosent do anything, only a very slight and almost unoticable increase in rpm or speed.
All of these problems beagan recently and at the same time. Please help Thanks in advance. On top of that at the same time My trim relay is bad and I beleive that now I have a pinhoLe in the fuel tank.

Re: 150 Force Leaky Carbs +Intermtient Starting

Hello bscapo1 and welcome to iboats. The standard response is to check compression in all cylinders and verify spark to each cylinder. Plugs need to be out of the cylinders and grounded with the spark wire attached. Test should be done in a dark area.

The carbs will drain when the motor is tilted. This is common. Your fuel is under pressure and when the motor is tilted the floats can not seat and fuel can keep going into the carbs till the fuel pressure decreases. I doubt a pinhole in the tank will cause you any grief. The poor running condition can be fuel or spark related.

Does the bulb get and stay hard when pumped?
When motor is running poorly does giving it some choke help or kill the motor?

Basic fuel maintance would be to rebuild the carbs and the fuel pump. The pump can be done for about 10 bucks. It would help to know if this is fuel or spark related. Try and do compression test and spark test and report back and post what you have found
