150 fast strike warning buzzer staying on ! [ help please ]

i just bought this boat, my first trip. ran ok on test run when i bought it. i took it out and it ran fine for a few start and stops, then when i had enough fishing for the day. i started it up, about 1 minute later the warning buzzer came on. i didn't think it was hot [overheated] . i attempted to give it full throttle, at 3000 rpm's it would cut out stopping my from reaching full throttle. i stopped it for 30 minutes. still same thing. now it's the morning after and the warning buzzer is still on ,, of course when i turn the key on. this is a 92 Johnson fast strike.The previous owner babied it. the oil injection tank was removed by prior owner. can any one help. or should i just take it to shop. http://forums.iboats.com/images/smilies/confused.gif

Sounds like you have a shorted temp sender, tan wire grounded out some where or a bad buzzer.

Captain , i worked on it today with some guidance from a local Johnson dealer, mike was very helpful and told me how to eliminate issues , one after the other. you are correct, it was the high side of the temp sensor that was hung up [ bad ] .. what caused all this to happen was a stuck up thermostat . i changed both and all good now. A pyrometer was very handy in finding the source of the heat. Thank all for helping. tomorrow i will test run the boat in the water and hopefully i did not hurt the power head. may god bless all !
