150 & 150Gt?

I just got a boat it is a 1990 with a Johnson 150 GT. But i was wanting to know what makes it a GT and not a regular 150?

The heads are different, and very good ones at that. The carbs are different too. Some year GT / XP's had 200 port timing or very close to it. Louvered hoods and other styling changes.

All so I dont think my alarms are working. I have been told they should sound when I turn the key on before the engine starts. Is there a way to test them? Thanks for all the help this is my first engine larger than a 30 and there is some thing I am still learning about.

If you have the newer self test horn it will beep momentarily when you turn the key on. The best thing to do is get an OE service manual and follow the instructions for testing the alarms. Real simple, with the key on touch the harness side of the wire to ground. The horn should sound. The OE manual will go further.
