15 hp mariner

I've got a 15 hp mariner don't know year but it won't go in reverse the only gear it will go in is forward and nutral when you try reverse it don't do nothing it won' even leave nutral.help please.

Have you replace your foot lube?

If the upper linkage is working or if the unit has been off recently you probably will have to adjust the shift rod height

thank's for the reply's but got that promblem tooken care of. now have a new one it will not idle unless I turn it way up?also could anyone tell me the yr of the motor if I give the model number?
