I have a 2000 130 Johnson Seapro. Symptoms described below are sporadic. Had 20-hr service performed. Problems still exist. Motor starts up great, but will stall out, most times after 1 or 2 minutes of warm-up. Sometimes it won't stall out. Engine has always performed flawlessly once I give a healthy push on the throttle and get it going. Problem is at idle or slow speed for a lengthy period of time; also when I am cycling between slow speed and idle as I approach boat slip. Was trolling last nite. Against the wind and current it idled fairly OK at low speed; once I turned around and went with the wind/current the motor sputtered occasionally (with puff of smoke from exhaust port) and died on me several times. Starts up immediately every time.

Before the 20 hr service, it used to bog down when I tried to give it the throttle when we went tubing. If I squeezed the primer bulb, it could power through and get up on plane.

Did recently notice gas dripping from one of the fuel lines (coming from the pencil-like plastic manifold) going to one of the carburetors. Why did Johnson put plastic ties on all the hose connections rather than clamps? Had to replace plastic tie with clamp to stop fuel leak. Does anyone think I could have an air leak into the fuel system? Problems still persist.

Does anyone have any suggestions???

It could be air getting into the fuel lines,Phil. Johnson isn't the only brand to use those @#$! tie-wrap thingys on all the hoses.MOF, I think they ALL do it. It must be some govt mandated thing. I would change every stinkin one of those out with a good quality stainless hose clamp. When you are at sea, it can become a big problem.
The puff of smoke doesn't sound good. Remove the plugs one at a time, and see if you find a very vlean one. This would indicate a head gasket leakig water into the cylinder.
Not to get you unduely worried, but check anyway.

Very vlean plug??? Hmmmm....
I meant very CLEAN plug. Dangol fingers are too phat.
But hot water in the cylinder will steam-clean the plug. A healthy plug will aquire a Healthy film on it.

IF dealer rigged/factory rigged I would check fuel/oil system from pickup tube to engine. I think they use the tiewrap, because if you get heavy handed with a screwdriver it breaks or closes down the plastic fittings. The fittings on the VRO pump were changed for this.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I replaced just about every black plastic tie strap used on the fuel lines inside the engine and outside with stainless steel clamps. The engine runs just great now!!! :)
