Built this aluminium boat with 6hp Johnson. Got the boat free from a co worker. Want to install a radio/CD player in it and hook it up to a switch, any suggestions? This is a older CD player that came out of a car and was just looking to save a little money on this part of the boat.

First of all welcome to iboats. :welcome:

I see some people doing that on these threads/forums and is isn't very hard to do such. Just be sure to use a fused power lines and have at it. Not knowing what you presently have, some of those older CD player were pretty easy to make skip with sudden bouncing and such. So a boat ride can get pretty bouncy and that could be an issue. But once stopped or slowly trolling all should be good...

Again, good to have you aboard!

Welcome to iboats.

Whatever you do .....DO NOT use the aluminum boat hull as a ground for anything. Everything needs to be grounded to the battery or you will set off an electrolysis storm that will EAT the aluminum!!

Regular CD players (non marine type) have a shorter then normal lifespan due to the moisture.

I have seen people mount a cd player and speakers inside a cooler and just plug it into the power when they get into the eboat and keeping the cover closed cuts way down on the moisture.
