This is a great site. The suggestions are right on and I have had luck keeping my boat running! The other day we unfortunately hit something solid in the water. I broke off most of the lower vertical fin below the propellar. There is a about two to three inches left. I was able to replace the prop and so far there appears to be no driveline trouble. We were able to run it back to shore. I changed the gear lube and the old stuff still looked good. In essance I have a lower unit with a broken fin. I am looking for any suggestions for a fix or success stories other than total replacement of the lower unit. Anybody had any luck with some type of retrofit. Thanks for any help.

I did the same thing this spring with my Force 150. The skeg can be repaired, a new skeg is welded on, sanded and repainted. On mine when they fixed the skeg the prop shaft was placed in v blocks and tested. It was bent and replaced. The work was performed at a local marine shop. Skeg repacement $200, total job with rebuilt prop $1200. Good luck. There is also a product called skeg quard, they might be able to help you.
