Hi,

I have a '97 120hp Force. Just fired it up for the season and cleared out all the fogging oil. There is a problem where the rpm's will suddenly rev up to 5500 on it's own. It happens when I am under way or just sitting there in neutral reving the engine. It will sit and idle at 1000 with no problem though. Any ideas what it might be? Thanks

Gremlin. ;)

Make sure all four throttle butterflies are closing fully at idle and that the throttle advance cam isn't quite touching the roller until the mark on the cam is aligned with the roller. Idle should be set so that you have to advance the throttle a tiny bit before that mark aligns with the roller. 1000 is about 250 high.

Are you saying it actually revs up or the tach indicates
5,500.
