You should be well below the 1K# limit, wherever that came from.

However, your issues may come from:

1. Should you have a failure, the dealer reserves the right to deny you, with Sub'y backup. The dead "giveaway" is the hitch. Make sure it is installed correctly and the wiring is correct.

2. I would be prepared (if the 1K* limit is valid) to present to a dealer the weight slips for your rig and pic's. Go to a local moving company and weigh your rig. $10.00 well spent.

Armed with those, assuming your 1K* limit is valid, you should have no issues.

And don't skimp on the relative bearing grease. Very surprised and disappointed that Home Cookin' didn't remind you of that.

In 1999 I towed an old waterlogged Mako 17 with 120Hp Johnson from Florida to Ohio with a 1997 Subaru Legacy/Outback 4 cyl. car.
I am sure it was stupid but the car seamed to handle it with ease and did not suffer any damages. It ran fine for many years after.

I work for a car dealership, and we bend over backwards to satisfy our customers...not to screw them over...even in this situation. I recommend you talk with your local subaru dealer and see if they are the type to service you and your needs or screw you over and go from there. And yes the CVT trannies are not the best for towing but as mentioned you have a towing maint schedule and are not towing much nor are you creating a large wind load on the hwy.

If the subaru has front wheel drive with CV joints like mine did, it doesn't have relative bearings. Maybe lostyer bearings?

Merry Christmas!

I've heard from some very reliable sources that the 2010 CVT is MASSIVELY overbuilt for the power levels of a stock engine. Its design limit is twice the stock hp. Towing shouldn't be a problem with it, it is a CYA thing from SOA. If you want to see what the actual tow limits are, check out the european subaru vehicles. For the most part, they are part-for-part identical, but will have vastly different tow ratings. Has nothing to do with the vehicle, its all the society we live in.

As far as a hitch being a dead giveaway, how else do you attach your hitch mounted bike rack? Unless subaru has a picture of you towing a boat around, its going to be hard to prove the damage was from towing. Since it is the first year on a new transmission, subaru is most likely going to cover any damages just to have the data from the failure.

I specifically bought my subaru because it was an AWD car that COULD tow 2000 pounds, and I use that feature often!
