I understand that you replaced the ball and spring but that check valve releases excess pressure. Did you inspect the ball seat to ensure it is clean and free from any corrosion? Flashlight req. If it looks bad a large drill bit turned by hand will clean it up. When you replaced it did you check the ports in the impeller assembly? You cannot see the intake unless you have the impeller removed. Not that you need to do that but from the check valve you can snake a wire down and free any obstructions if there are any. It would be one of the possibilities of a blockage that would not be noticed as when you run on the hose you bypass this intake.
On my setup the nipple coming off the bubble back feeds a line that goes to a water pressure gauge. The pee hole hose is connected to the port side of the adaptor underneath.

yes, i have carefully checked all that. back to what you said earlier about going back to double oil. do you still recommend that ? any tricks for getting that pee hole plug out ? thanks

What I would also check to make sure is that one of the fins on the impeller housing (not the actual impeller) itself is not broken. Mine has a broken piece. I can see where a broken impeller housing fin can divert water away from the cooling system pickup. Highly unlikely but it may be worth checking if all else seems to be ok.
it all looks good, the only thing i have had to do was grind down the wear ring a little to keep it from rubbing. corrosion has formed behind the stainless causing the wear ring to push out.

are you sure your cylinder head gaskets are fitted the correct way if you gonna run your motor whit deflectors in , other wise go plan B

yes,i have pulled everything down a second time just to be sure and besides i have even head temps on both banks.

Yes you should keep the oil doubled until you resolve this issue.

I'd consider torching it as well.

i was out running the boat today, taking temperature readings with the IR TEMP GUN,after running at high speed for a few minutes i would stop and take some temp readings, what i found was while the head temp on both banks was around 165 the muffler on the top left read 235 while the top right and the rest of the muffler was 160. what could be causing this ?

Never cut one in half but it is probably normal design. So with the motor running you are getting an alarm at high rpm at those temps?

as the pressure builds when at high rpm could possibly be leaking at the gasket on the exhaust adapter

i run it at high speeds then stop real quick and check the temps, thats when i noticed the high temp on the muffler. if i continue to run the boat longer i can get it to overheat.

you are referring to the gaskets on the back of the bubbleback housing ? not the gasket under the muffler, correct ?

I have seen debris in water passage in adapter plate cause this problem also......

initially i had a leak out the side of the adapter plate ( not the adapter assembly below) i pulled the engine and found a hairline crack barely visible, i took the plate to a guy i know who specializes in aluminum welding and reinstalled with fresh gaskets. the overheat situation do not show up until over 10 hours of use. maybe something is wrong with the adapter assembly. when i had it apart everything looked good.
