I have a 1999 Johnson 115 Ocean Pro on an 18' center console. Earlier this season I replaced the fuel line from the tank to the primer bulb and filter (water separating canister style).
It has been running well this season at idle and high speeds with some minor bogging at speeds above idle and below planing speed. It would sometimes stall in idle when hot but start right back up. It seemed to be losing prime at these times so I replaced the primer bulb and fuel line from the bulb to the engine. I checked the white fuel strainer on the VRO unit and it seemed clean.
After replacing the primer bulb and remaining fuel line, it would still idle great when cold but now barely idles when hot. At all speeds it seems to have a fuel starvation issue. I can pump the primer and run at 1-3k RPMS for a couple minutes until it bogs and then may stall. Pumping the primer at that point will restore power temporarily. When I get it on plane at 3,500+ RPM, it runs better but will surge noticeably between a bog and correct throttle.
I am pretty confident there are no air leaks in the fuel line. I opened the fuel cap to make sure it wasn't a vent issue and there was no difference. The primer bulb was a universal style where you cut off the 5/16" hose barb to use the 3/8". I am guessing the orifice is slightly smaller than the old primer bulb and may be making the issue worse. However there must be another underlying issue.
Any ideas? Thank you in advance for your help, it is greatly appreciated
