A friend of mine just recently bought a boat with a 1989 Johnson 110 or 120, can't remember. He says that it will plane out and run like a champ as soon as he puts it in the water but after he stops and fishes for a while it will not hardly plane out or run more than 2500-3000 rpm's. He said that it will sputter a little and then go from 2500 to 5000 or so and run great again for a little while. I told him to check his carbs anyone else have any other suggestions? Maybe a powerpack?? Thanks for your all's help!
Wade H.

Check the water seperator then find out which motor it is. A 110 is a cross flow and a 120 is a looper. The electronics are different.

Good luck!

Re: 110 or 120 Johnson loosing power

I picked up a load of bad gas in Islamorada, FL last month and my engine did the same thing. Separator was 3/4 full of water. It is the same size as an oil filter. I changed the fuel filter/H2O separator and the plugs and it ran better, but didn't start running better until I replaced the gas with fresh fuel.
