So I predict very little getting done the next few days now that I found this site! It is awesome, and have not stopped reading threads all day, only problem is that I have a boat that needs attention in the garage. Here is her story:
Bought a 1975 Baja v 1600 boat on an EZ loader trailer powered by a 1986 110 hp evinrude. Just got married this past weekend and wanted to surprise my wife by taking her out on the river on something besides my fishing boat! Bought boat for 850 and Thought I had a steal until I tested compression and it tested at 91, 89, 89, and 0!!! Pulled cover off and cylinder has scoring and damage to piston and head. Looking for advice on rebuilding such as difficulty , kits, time, worth and also on best deals on used outboards 85 hp - 115 hp. Plan on rebuilding this winter as a project but would like to get this boat some power so we can enjoy this summer.

Motor # E110TLCDC

Looking at purchasing a running 1990 100 hp evinrude for $700 to put on boat. Good idea?

After your 1st bad purchase(I've made my share of them recently)....make sure that you really check it out carefully BEFORE you take it home. Will seller show it running on the water? Or just in test barrel?

Re: 110 hp evinrude no compression

I left out my main question which is how similar the 1986 110 evinrude is to the 1990 100 evinrude. Wouldn't mind rebuilding and learning on one while using the other and then being able to rebuild the other one easily.

Get an OEM shop manual. It will tell you in considerable detail, all the steps involved in a rebuild. Then you can decide whether you want to do it or not. If you do decide to do it, you will need the book in any case.

if you'll go to marineengine.com, boats.net, shop.evinrude.com....you can compare parts no's. between the 2..ie;, carbs, ignition, lu, powerhead parts, etc.
