I made sure to run the OB, before I agreed to the trade to make sure that she ran, the gears engaged smoothly and the impeller worked as it should, and of course that the tilt mechanism all works as it should. It does run smooth. I will be needing to replace the prop or get her repaired , ( I pulled the prop and the hub is in great shape). "Ships Ahoy" near Sparta (St. Thomas) Ontario should be able to help there. The only other main concern is the "High Speed" control knob is missing. I can turn it by the centre collar for now though.
The only iussue that the previous owner said that he had was that after 4-5 hours, it started to run rough. I checked the air cleaner/filter. The canister is there, but no filter or cover is present. Looks like I'll be doing the carb, and making a cover for the airfilter. I checked the plugs, and he was running J6C sparkplugs( the equivelent of j6j in the old days) which are a colder running plug than j8c (j8j). They were slightly fouled, but not that bad that I can't clean, regap and reuse after testing. I'll be checking the thermostat soon. Probably hasn't been cleaned for a while.
When I got her, I also got the fuel line/connectors, and inline primer. The fellow did not have a fuel tank for it though, so I simply took the connector off of the line, dropped it into a regular gas can of 24:1 mixed fuel, and ran her. I know know that the fuel pump is working nice and strong as well, as it had about a 3 ft lift to draw on as well.
Should be fun to get these minor things done over the winter, tune her up in the spring, and do some boating and fishing.
