Well, this is indeed one of those sticky issues.<br /><br />It would be nice if everyone could provide really good paying jobs for life. Unfortunately, that is not the reality.<br /><br />What the dems need to do is listen once in a while to Bill Clinton. He got the economy really going by globalization, and by encouaging massive productivity gains. Unfortunately, those productivity gains came at the expense of automating many existing jobs and the resultant job losses.<br /><br />It kept the economy rolling, with many prices falling, and it provided many new jobs with different skills required.<br /><br />The dem position should be rather than rail against job losses, they should encourage retraining efforts and similar programs, to take advantage of the new jobs being created.<br /><br />The days of semi-skilled labor providing an upper middle class income have largely been over for some time. Time to learn how to be flexible and adaptable, I am afraid.<br /><br />Like it or not, it is the new reality, however painful it may be to some.
