so i got a boat. and joined this site. 1974 mon ark jon boat 14' with an unknown condition 1956 evinrude 5512 5.5hp and an unknown condition little minnkota 30 and some kind of trailer. $450.

first thing is putting some new trailer lights and harness that work and some nutsnbolts here and there. and some new wheelzntires.
then ill see about the engine. the boats last sticker was 2020 and the motor looks intact but the pull rope is broken and PO unsprung the sproing. im hoping its OK in there plugs are still in and it was stored upright. still has the blowUup pressurized metal gas tank so i got some hope.
ill probably try it as is, but im aware of the mikuni fuelpump upgrade so who knows.
yes ill check compression before spending beer tokens :)

i havent been on a vessel of any size since before the internet so im looking forward to some bass action real soon.

found this site while researching the engine, thanks for all the previous posts knowledge in here.

Before you spend much on this, make sure you have what you need to get it transferred/ registered. I live "border town" in Idaho next to Spokane, WA. The title/ not titled laws vary, in Idaho you can have some boats titled, many older ones not, but "if they were ever titled" then they "must stay titled." ANYthing in ID that floats must be registered, In WA you can run up through some power level with no registration, otherwise they need titled. All this adds up to a mess of BS with sloppy owners.

Otherwise, welcome to the big bottomless hole in the water.

right on i dont know how it is where i am in OK. i know in TX the game wardens will come out on you like they were hiding underwater they appear out of the ether from nowhere.
i do have the title. i was under the impression if i dont put the outboard on it i dont have to have it registered but i dont know for sure. im not too much sweating it im in the boonies and the local town lets us drive 4wheelers ATVs rockcrawlers and mudders in town. i know thats not the same as core of engineers water but hopefully they are cool too.

That car was a LONG time ago, my first was a 69 383 4 speed RR bought in San Diego (NAS Miramar) about 71, and then about 72 I bought the 440-6 car, a 70, from a good friend. Wish I still had it. 70RR, 440-6, 4 speed, Dana 3.54, and "hang on" aftermarket AC.. In the midst of the 70's "gas crunch" I swapped a low miles 340 into the car, something Ma should have done. Turned it into equivalent of a 350 Chevelle, and would get just shy of 18 mpg. It would stay right with a stock 383 RR

Yeh, I'm old---73

i put some oil down the chambers and let it sit a minute then spun it by hand at the flywheel.
spins easy and goes thunk thunk real nice.
it shifts thru r - n - f easily, and engages the prop.
i think its worth spending some beer tokens.

i took a marine battery and box, a renogy 10amp solar controller, a 10w solar panel off a gate or feeder, and a minnkota 40 trollingmotor and went rechargable.
