A 200 yard trip with a trailer sounds like a move to another place real close by. He's not going on the turnpike at 100 MPH or down the road into town where millions of youngsters are just to jack the trailer around and make it come off this 1 7/8th " ball and kill someone. Nor are we condoning folks with a 1 7/8th ball to tow a 2" trailer around. Jeez Louise!!!
The answer is yes you can tow a trailer with a 2" hitch with a 1 7/8th" ball. It is also the opinion of this forum that you use your head here. If it's more than going to your buddies garage 200 yards away don't do it without knowing that YOU may be liable for damages.
