Hey guys, I recently purchased a 2008 mercury outboard 15hp short shaft motor. The previous owner stated he hit something with the prop and damaged the drive shaft in the lower unit. I received just the motor without the lower unit. I thought I could find one relatively easy but I am having a hard time finding a good used, complete lower unit for this motor. Would anyone have an idea on where I could pick one up from? I've tried random boat dealers, salvage yards, and searched eBay everyday. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I don't know how to tell you this, but they are hard to find. The factory gets about $1100 + shipping, and they don't honor warrantee unless authorized Mercury people put it on!!!!! I know because I bought a complete one, and after I filled it with oil I had a big puddle under it the next morning. When it was assembled they sheared the carrier O-ring so I had about 1 1/2' piece and the rest was missing. I talked to all involved and Mercury.. no solution! made a tool to remove the carrier and bought a $3.50 O-ring to make it right. I do like the engine and it is great on fuel. The LU on the non bigfoot is not very beefy, so be carful what you buy used.

Thanks a lot for your help star. I am not in a rush to purchase one so I'll wait for a good used one to come around as paying $1100 for a new one is out of the question.

Depends on your location.--Agreed these units are not considered " robust " by any means and I see folks / dealers looking for them all the time.
