Hi All

Bought a new boat this year and have only one issue remaining. The engine stalls intermittently during manuevering ( really annoying ) . One dealer advised me it was shift cable adjustment but this didnt fix it. The dealer I took the boat to for winterization advised me that the battery suppied with the boat is too small and this is causing the ignition voltage to drop during idle. The battery supplied with the boat was 715 CCA the second dealer wants me to instal a 1000 CCA battery. Please help I just want to fix this issue.

Thanks

PURE BS

Your boat is equiped with a shift interrupt system. When you move the shifter from either fwd or rev into neutral, the tension on the cable activates a switch that grounds out the ignition briefly. This causes a slight stumble and let the drive come out of gear.

Do you shift slowly and cautiously or do you shift swiftly and decisively. If you shift too slowly, the switch will be activated too long and the engine will stall. Did your dealer take the time to duplicate the problem, or just go straight to the billable repairs based on your description?

If it's a brand new boat, it's still under waranty and you shouldn't be paying for anything. The size and type battery is not your problem. IF it was too small a battery you would have problems getting it started, not running.
Slow shifting may be your problem, but if not, and your dealers can't find the problem, call Merc yourself and explain the problem. Mercruiser has a hot line to their dealers, if they have problems. They may also send out a rep to check it out if the phone doesn't work. At NO CHARGE to you.
