06 Tahoe Q4 prop for a better holeshot?

Hi guys, I am asking this here in the Tahoe section instead of the prop section because I am looking for personal experience. I hope to find another 2006 Q4 SS 4.3 (carb) 190hp captain who has found a prop that improves the holeshot and gets a wakeboarder out of the water and up on plane quicker?

I would give up some top end to get them out of the water without having to go to WOT and have one or two people at the bow keeping the nose out of the air. I use a factory tower, as you can see.

Does anyone with a similar setup have experience with a better prop than my stock aluminum Michigan Wheel 14 x 23p?

I have a 07 Q6 with the 4.3L carb (190 hp). I just bought a Solas Rubex 4 21P based on recommendations from the guru's on the prop forum. I love it. Great hole shot and still good speed. top speed is 47 at 4800 rpm. My boat is a little heavier (3000 lbs vs 2200 lbs) than yours so you may get a little more speed! If you're having trouble with bow lift you may want to spring for some smart tabs. I got them last fall - holds the bow down on takeoff and eliminates porpoising. Makes the boat much more stable.

I second the smart tabs install. Best investment I made on improvements. You can get a set of factory blems on this site for $99.

I just put on a Solas Amita 4 blade in a 21 pitch on my 07 Q4 with 190hp.
I have only been out once and have not tested WOT yet. So far I have noticed the hole shot is better and the mid range performance is way better than the 3 blade 23. The 4 blade is much smoother and more responsive.

just my opinion though. I also have the smart tabs so we have pretty much an identical setup.

I actually went with a hydrofoil because of the weird Q4 transom shape, and on the recommendation of of my local shop. I run the one with the ventilation clamp, so no holes drilled. It did pull the nose down for general driving, but not what I hoped for when towing a skier or wakeboarder.

So I see two votes for a 21P Solaris, it looks like a few Tahoe owners are in agreement.

Yes - mine is 14" X 21P 4 blade solas rubex

I went the other way. My 5.0 Q6 had a stock merc 3 blade 21p prop. I gave up 2 mph top end when I went with the hustler 19p prop, but have gotten much better hole shot. Hope this helps.

I went the other way. My 5.0 Q6 had a stock merc 3 blade 21p prop. I gave up 2 mph top end when I went with the hustler 19p prop, but have gotten much better hole shot. Hope this helps.

maddog, sounds like you went down by two, which would be the same route I am thinking. I have a 23p, thinking about going to a 21p based on recommendations by other Tahoe owners. Sounds like you went down by two from stock, too.

Like you, I don't mind giving up some top end to gain a better holeshot.

Q4 pilot, I`m no expert in fact , I`m a novice boater. Alot of guys on this and other sights were very happy with the hustler props due to holes for cooling and cupped blades. They have actually been discontinued, but they still have them at iboats, where I bought mine. For 115.00 bucks, I figured I could risk it, but I`m very pleased with the performance. It`s done exactly what I was hoping for. Hope this helps.

Maddog, thanks for the comment, I havent heard of that prop. Is yours a 4-blade, or a 3-blade, and is in SS or aluminum? I will do a little research on this, the price sounds nice.

3 blade aluminum and purchased from iboats.
