06 Mariner 9.9

Buddy called me. Has a 9.9 that pee's water really good at idle but when you throttle it up it quits. Said he bought a 150 complete kit with everything and installed it and the same thing. Not on muffs but in a tank. Took it to the river and the same thing. Any ideas.TIA

I think if it’s the same as the one I had from early 2000’s…they have intermittent flow from the tell tale. Comes and goes, because of the actions of the thermostat. But shouldn’t totally stop altogether or for long for sure.

Yeah he took the thermostat out and still has the same issue I guess we're going to have to tear it down together and see what's going on

Is this a 4strk/2 strk? Tohatsu or Merc built?

Check if the water-tube going into the block is properly aligned, if not it will/can fill up the LU with water coming from the pump & finding its way to the block that way
When the motor runs in gear the back-pressure drops (due to the water movement) & the pumped out water will not reach the upper part
( I may be wrong)
