Hey all, I'm new to this forum. I've just had my Dad pass last month and he left me his 21' Aquasport with a Mercury 200, 2 stroke, carbed motor. It sat since last summer and the gas went bad and some was run through the motor. I rebuilt the carbs, nice and sweet, no big woop, and set'em back up this morning. The lower carb, (#3) is leaking fuel mix. not alot, but some. The engine would not idle but for a bit before it would stall, then i would see a bit of fuel leakin through the mouth of the lower carb. I replaced the gaskets, seat screw and needle, it's the same float and I did not check these, the floats, for adjustment.

I appreciate any thoughts ya'll might have.

Heres what i do...Strip carbs down completely(except btterfly and rod).Remove ALL gaskets.Spray carb cleaner in/on every metal part, hole and crevice...let sit for 15 min, rinse with water then blow dry with compressed air. Then i repeat with solvent(mineral terps) and blow dry again.Replace all needle/seats,check float for cracks etc, then RESET float height to exact spec.Replace ALL gaskets......ALL GASKETS.Oh and dont forget correct link and sinc when putting back together.
Sorry to hear about your Dad.Welcome to Iboats.

How does one adjust the float? Might sound like an idiot question, but other than bending the metal part of the float, I expect there is no other way.

Forever:

Sorry about your Dad but the boat will hold a lot of memories for you. What is the s/n of your engine and I will send you the Service Manual which will describe the carb float adjustments.

OK, my bad. I followed the youtube video and not my manual when rebuilding these. The manual clearly states that the float is to be set at, "turning the float housing upside down, the float should stay exactly even/flush with the housing". I'm way paraphrasing here. But I've posted a couple pics, In one you can see all three carbs after I'd been turning her over for a bit. She starts some and then stall out, never steady and never like she should. Carb #2 and #3 both have a bit of fuel mix. Not much. It wasn't poring out, just a bit, 3 worse than two and 1 not at all. I pulled #2 and #3 this afternoon and checked the floats, the both are in great condition, no cracks, however they both needed to be slightly adjusted. Just slightly though. I reset the needle and blew out the seat screw with carb cleaner. Ran out of sunlight, so I didn't get the hoses and linkage on to start here up.

The other pic is the on that concerns me. It shows that brass 3way, (Tee). The hose going up from that tee goes right to the top of the oil reservoir vent, (I think its a vent), Going to read up more on it tonight. The bottom hose goes down into my hose and cable flex tubing harness, into the splash well, by my batteries, I have not followed it to it's end yet. I expect it's a vent from that reservoir, but it seems an odd way to vent in the engine compartment and I'd hate to be missing a vacuum line.

Appreciate the comments and advice

Gerry, thanks, that would be great. I've got a seloc manual and it says what I wrote in the last post. the S/N is, OT 371267. I didn't write too much about it, but the gas has soured and the carbs got rebuilt. I can't ask Pops how it was running last he had it out, but his records, like this boat is tidy and very much in order. When I get this fuel thing right I'll replace the plugs, synchronize everything and just go through everything, but 1st things 1st.

The brass tee is a check valve for oil system..the hoses going into boat are the oil supply and tank pressure lines

That s/n comes up as a model:

1200422YD MERCURY 2001 200

Parts Listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/11209.cfm

Service Manual P/N: 90-878079

http://1manual.com/Mercury manuals/Service Manual PDFs/TwoStroke/878079/cover.pdf

You must have Adobe Acrobat reader installed to use this manual. If you scroll down to the lower part of the opening page, you will see the various engine components in red. Click on the one you want and when the first page opens, click on the "Save As" icon at the top LH corner of the page and you can save it to your computer.

Good Luck with the boat and let us know how things work out.

OK, set the floats in all 3, re-applied the hoses and She's turnin, but not sparkin. I checked the plugs, (I'll replace then tomarrow), they are a bit oily. (I only checlked 2, had to get). As I said, this boat sat for a few months as my Dad was down. I know some bad gas made it's way through, that's why the carb rebuild, and I'll go through the maintenece checklist I have, but all advice is much appreciated
