Re: 01 gp1200r questions

Its running perfect now. I WILL rebuild the carbs, but it will be alittle bit.. I had a heart attack 3 weeks ago. and got fired last tuesday. so I have nothing but time while i find another job. And no money to buy new parts right now. I do have a full tank of gas and only live 3minutes from the water. So i'm gonna go drop it in. and hope for the best.... wish me luck.

WOW! SORRY to hear that! Well good luck on the SKI! I am sure all will turn out well. I got laid off almost 9 months ago so I know what it is like (no heart attack though). Either way keep us updated......

OK. soooooo ready to hear the update?

Soo. I had it on the hose for about an hour running GREAT. revving up, idling everything.. We dropped it into the water. man started up the first turn over.. idled out the channel. eased into the throttle every things good.. so i mashed it.. everything good get up to about 40mph. So i slowed down turned around. mashed the throttle she got right up.. got to about 45mph. and DEAD.. tried to restart and nothing not even the dash came on.. waited about a minute and it started right up.. idled back into the channel back to the docks.. I shut it off. than restarted it everything's good.. So i went back out.. threw the channel mashed the throttle got to about 44mph and DEAD. had to wait about 2 minutes than started right up. again 45-46mph DEAD.. about the 5th time. I decided to only hit about 30mph it took alittle longer but again DEAD.. (of course by this time I'm getting pissed) 2 more times of it dieing and having to wait.. Than every time i hit the start bottom it would just click. than it would start.. NOW it doesn't do anything.. I hit the start button and NOTHING. no dash no click, no nothing.................... We thought maybe a dead battery. so I had my buddy try to jump it with his Jon boat and still nothing.. I can hear a faint click when ever i push the start button ( maybe the starter relay) Maybe its just the starter is hanging up and that's what's making the engine die??

Re: 01 gp1200r questions

I don't know if this thread is still going (since June) but I have gone through 4 starter relays on my 01 xlt 1200, and that's what it sounds like, just a faint click and no turnover.

Agreed that you can do a lot of damage by either filling the hull by more than a couple inches or by not following the exact sequence on attaching/detaching a hose, or by turning the pressure on the hose up too high. It will force the water all the way back through the exhaust system and fill the pistons. Then turning it over can damage the crank, etc. If you ever get water in the pistons, the only way to get it out is to remve the plugs and vacuum it out and then with just a bit left, turning it over should get most of the rest. Then starting it and running is the only way I know to fully dry the bores.

As far as checking your rear bearings, if you look up in the grate with a flashlight and see that the edges of your impeller and/or wear ring is all chewed up, your bearings are likely shot. One of the signs of this is poor performance (and sounds like a bucket of bolts). Too much resistance with the impeller mashing against the wear ring.

Good luck, hope things are working out with the health and job issues.

Chris
