‘92 Force 40 Shift Shaft Seal

Can anyone tell me what is the best way to remove the shift shaft seal on a 92 Force 40 lower unit?

Drop the lower unit, then small screwdriver pry the seal out.
Be careful not to score the soft aluminum seat.
Use a sealer on the edges of the new seal.
Make sure the old sealer is gone completely when reinstalling the
new, leaving sealer can make the seal swell and might cause the shaft to seize on the seal making it very hard to shift.

Hey thanks a lot. What about the driveshaft seal? Any advice on removing that?

The driveshaft, after water pump removal should pull out.
Then same procedure, pry or use the seal removal tool.
Both methods can score the soft alum. so be very careful.
