Re: ¿¿WD-40??

Guides out here suggested WD-40 for years at fishing seminars for Salmon, Sturgeon, and Stripers until someone from EPA said not legal to spray any oil on anything and then put it in the water. Now they hold up the WD-40 say this is oil do not use it, then hold up Bang and Say use this.

WD40 works great when sprayed on strips of Mackerel which is then used as bait for "Lesser Spotted Dogfish" (LSD or doggies as known locally). The only problem is that you are not allowed use this method in any competition and instant dismissal would follow. Am talking about shore and boat fishing on the East coast of Ireland by the way.

I haven't tried it for fishing with yet, usually just for lubricating the reel and such, but being the lazy camper that I am have found out that if you use just a little on a wood that is wet it is an excellent firestarter as it seems to help dry the wood out faster, 2 stroke oil also works well to in a pinch. Just don't stand too close and safer then gasoline.

Ever wonder what WD-40 stands for?

Here's a quote from the WD 40 web site www.wd40.com:

WD-40 literally stands for Water Displacement, 40th attempt. That's the name straight out of the lab book used by the chemist who developed WD-40 back in 1953. The chemist, Norm Larsen, was attempting to concoct a formula to prevent corrosion -- a task which is done by displacing water. Norm's persistence paid off when he perfected the formula on his 40th try.
