problems with carburetor/idling

hi every one i'm new here, i took my boat out today and i was running my boat at all speeds everything seemed to be ok until the jhonson 1966 40hp super sea horse just died out on me! i restarted it and it only ran at about 5 mph from there on when i tried to accelerate it wanted to die out again so i just moved it at low speed to ramp. i did notice uneven idling, since before when i squeeze the small pump on gas line gas comes out of carburetor too.!! can any one please help, thank you in advance to all you guys

sounds like a carb cleaning/re-build is in your future! Fairly simple job and not expensive for the carb kit either. A general tune-up with new plugs/points/condensers wouldn't be a bad idea either, but start with the carb cleaning/re-build kit.
