Does anyone know why my engine sounds like it is disengaging from the starter during start proceedure? It sounds normal the first couple of cranks but then it sounds like the starter is free spinning. Does this sound like a bendix problem?

I recently bought a j115plee ocean runner and had it mounted on my boat. The engine starts and runs fine when it's hot but hard to start when cold. Could it be because It did not come with oil injection that it performs this way? Does it start using a specific routine when it's cold? (does the...

I guess I had a senior moment when I removed the rectifier. Can someone tell me which red wire I connect to on the terminal strip (position 4 or 5) when I replace it. There are two red wires on the strip. Can you tell me where they go to inside the engine ?

The other day I noticed that my battery voltage was not changing when I increased speed. The meter read 12.5 volts all the time so I replaced the rectifier. Now the voltage at idle reads about 12.8 volts but goes as high as 16 volts when I am running at about 2000 rpm. Is this value too high...

I recently read that there are pinholes in the thermostat housing that must be open in order for the thermostats to work. This baffles me, for how do you keep them open when the engine runs in salt water? If the pinholes clog up again, do the thermostats become totally inoperative?

Yesterday I pushed the key in,turned it to the right and the starter cranked but the engine died after the key returned to its neutral position.I restarted it several times but the engine would only run with the primer selenoid engaged. I noticed a drip of gas coming from the carburator. Is that...

Being that my engine is now 20 years old,I now regularly check the temperature alarm by grounding the brown wire to the switch in the head. Unfortunately, that does not check the switch. Does anyone know how reliable that switch is,and do you have to remove the head to get to it?

I recently discovered that my outboard had been running on 3 cylinders and when I replaced the connector going to the input of the coil, a big increase in rpm and power. What surprised me is the engine idled fairly smoothly while the 4th plug was not firing. Can anyone tell me how this was...

The other day I removed all four spark plugs and one of them looked completely clean with no oil deposits at all, like it was brand new out of the box. Is this a sign of water getting into the cylinder? I changed them about two months ago. Also, can you read voltage coming out of a power pack...

I recently replaced the diverters in the left head of this engine because this side was overheating. Now the left head runs cooler at slow speed but at 3500 it runs hot(180). The right side runs cool. The relief valves are new. Any ideas?
