    90 Mercury 40HP motor

I have had some local inquiries about parting out this motor but I know nothing about it. The marina stated it had power trim but didn't say anything about tilt. Beings I have no idea what is what on this motor does it have both power tilt and trim or can it have one or the other? Any idea of...

    90 Mercury 40HP motor

I don't know but the electrical harness was unplugged in the motor and the diagnosis was as stated above. No fire and a horn going off made me think maybe a reader of some sort.

    90 Mercury 40HP motor

I suspect they plugged some sort of diagnostic I suspect they put some sort of diagnostic reader into the wiring harness and didn't do much more than that. Might have put a bore scope into the #3 and 4low compression cylinders to see scoring as they did specify, they were scored. Looked like...

    transom mount trolling motor

Got a 20 ft pontoon that I replaced the decking and carpet on this winter to use as a dock on our 4.5 acre pit. Removed the console, steering mechanism & controls that went to the old motor and have not replaced them. It looks so nice I hate to just dock it but the 40HP motor is way too big and...

    90 Mercury 40HP motor

Bought a 20 ft pontoon to use on our pit and it came with this 40 HP motor. It is a 1990 Merc. 40HP, ELPTO, 4 cylinders with a serial number of OC226261. It is oil injected. Pulled it off as it is too big for our use and decided to have it checked out at the local marina due to having sat for...

    1990 Mercury 40HP

I've been restoring a 1991 Playcraft pontoon that has a 1990 40HP Mercury Classic outboard on it. I got the boat without any keys and have taken the throttle controller off as part of the restoration. I took the key switch out to find a number on it that is 240-2E. I see replacement 2E keys...

    MotorGuide model 740

Didn't get any replies to my other post so thought I'd just ask about the trolling motor on the 1991 Playcraft pontoon I am refurbishing. I am working on the trolling motor and it seems to make no sense to me as to what was on the boat. It had two batteries, but both were junk and not even...

    MotorGuide model 740

I am working on a 1991 Playcraft 20' pontoon that I bought earlier this year. I have replaced the decking and put new carpeting in it and now turning to the means of propulsion. It has an older mid 1990's Motorcraft model 740 bow mount trolling motor on it with a foot controller, that I know...

    Decided to replace the decking

Decided to redo it the way it was and found foundation plywood treated the old style. Had to special order it but got the same thing that came off it that was made 35 years ago.

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

This is EXACTLY what I removed from the pontoon I just bought. It came from the factory with this very plywood on it and has been on it for 35 years. The plywood actually had no soft spots but was weathered from sitting exposed for numerous years, so I replaced it with EXACTLY what came off of it.

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

So, I decided to use CCA pressure treated plywood used for permanent foundations. I am also going to use the "old Timers Seal" on it to help with waterproofing. I cannot seem to find any adhesive manufacturer to state that their product will work on this plywood. The CCA is the old arsenic...

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

Did you seal the CDX with anything as I've not seen any of it that is for long term water exposure? From what I have read all the new treated plywood is now treated with a copper chemical that reacts to the aluminum.

    Decided to replace the decking

After some thought and suggestions on here I have decided to go ahead and replace the decking on the pontoon I am replacing the carpeting on. This is a 1990 Playcraft that has rails in which the decking is sandwiched in between what appears to be an "E" shaped rail. The bottom is bolted to the...

I decided to do just that.

    1991 Playcraft pontoon restoration

FINALLY got the steering cable out from the steering tube. Scott was correct as it took a big hammer and a drift smacking it pretty hard to get it out. I had been spraying it down with PB Blaster for about three days and yesterday I got it out. Funny the cable didn't appear too bad or...

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

The floor surface has checked and peeled up in areas, but after removing what was loose, the rest looks good. My thought was to epoxy over the surface and then carpet over it. I have already removed everything from the deck BUT seeing how the decking is fitted into the aluminum channel, will...

    Resurfacing marine plywood decking

Having to replace the carpeting on a 1990 pontoon that has it for quite a while. The surface of the decking is peeling up on a couple of sheets, BUT the floor is not week. Can this decking be resurfaced or should I just bite the bullet and replace the plywood? I'm really not wanting to...

    1991 Playcraft pontoon restoration

No need to cut the cable as I did get it out of the helm, so it is lying flat out from the tilt tube. I suspect the cable has the steering attachment as part of it and that entire thing has to be driven out of the tube? Been pounding it with a 3# maul and a block of native oak and so far can't...

    1991 Playcraft pontoon restoration

I removed the nut holding the steering cable into the tube on one side and the steering arm from the motor to it on the other side. Pulled it out about 4-5 inches and can't budge from there. I have sprayed WD40 and PB blaster into the tube around the cable but makes no difference. I've tapped...
