    Uflex hydraulic steering issue

I have a fairly new to me boat with Yamaha F300 and Uflex steering. The other day while working on the motor I had noticed that is had moved somewhat from center to one direction and there was a small amount of oil that appeared to have leaked out of the left end of the cylinder. I thought...

2016 Yamaha F300 gear oil smell when running

I did both my main and kicker at the same time, and was thinking that I was substantially into my second quart when I got it to come out the check hole. Possibly I just had it over full. Checked it again this morning after it sat vertical overnight and did get a trickle. I'll run it again and...

2016 Yamaha F300 gear oil smell when running

I have a new to me F300 with around 575 hours on it. I had ran it once or twice immediately after buying it and it all seemed good. When doing some annual maintenance, it seemed like the lower unit oil level was low, although I didn't measure what came out, it did not look at all like the...

    5.0 GXI C no start

Update on this still ongoing issue. Pulled the ECM out and sent it to rebuilder. No problem found but also no surprise because it was running perfectly when I pulled it. Cleared multiple codes, all likely set when I was testing, unplugging things etc when the no start issue occurred. After...

Thanks! Exactly my thoughts! Super expensive!

    5.0 GXI C no start

Thank you! Specifically what I am looking for specifically is what F3 fuse (15amp) ignition feeds. It seems that it powers the ECM as well as the ignition circuits but that’s a guess. It will intermittently blow when key is turned on or even while running. All of the diagrams I have found show...

    5.0 GXI C no start

Cranks no start. Intermittently blows 15 amp ignition fuse. Occasionally will try and start but almost always has no spark. Replaced, ignition module, coil, and crank sensor, no change. Crank sensor does read on tach when cranking. No codes. A wiring diagram might help. Suspect ECM failure.

    5.0 GXI intermittent severe misfire

Starting last season I have had an anomaly that I haven’t been able pinpoint. It didn’t occur for most of many trips this summer but happened multiple times yesterday. Either upon start up or sometimes when putting into reverse and making a quick stop the normally great running port fuel...

    Tach inop

After doing a partial engine overhaul my tach worked for a few minutes and then quit. Ive checked the power and ground supply to the tach, no problems there. The signal wire is intact and has good continuity to the connection at the coil. I have tried a different coil just because I happen to...

5.7 GLi code 42 and tach inop

After reinstalling my motor for an upper end rebuild etc it started right up and all appeared normal. I connected my code tool and set the base timing and locked down the distributor. I removed the code tool and started it back up. I noticed at that point that the tach which was definetely...

    Cylinder head replacement casting numbers

I have one bad head on my 5.7L GLi. I am trying to locate a suitable core. Is there a cross reference guide of some sort that would help me to determine which casting numbers or part numbers would work ? Motor s/n T1298254 Motor model # 57FDPLKD Cyl head casting # 14096217

    Engine corrosion removal and prevention

Well, what I thought was a case of burned exhaust valves is excalating as I've found to be a common senario with anything involving boat repair. Exhaust manifold gasket surface between riser and manifolds failed,(as Don so appropriatly pointed out, thanks Don). The trickle of cold salt water...

    Burned exhaust valves 5.7 GLi

I had been noticing a bit of a rough idle for awhile but didnt worry too much about it as it was slight. After this weekend the rough idle turned into a pretty good lope. I did some testing on it and discovered that I have burnt exhaust valves on #4 and #6 cylinders. The exhaust manifolds and...

Very strong RFI on VHF from sonar

I have recently replaced my old chartplotter with a new Raymarine A57d. On my first outing everything worked perfectly and I was amazed at how well the unit worked. A few months later I was able to head out for my second trip since I had replaced the chartplotter. I was picking up a very strong...

    Prop suggestions

After being advised to replace or repair the small dings and chips in my old prop I have decided to have that one fixed and use it as a spare. I have been out boating regularly for about 6 years now and have not had the need for a spare yet, but now that I am thinking about it not having one...

    Prop dings and chips

My prop has a few pretty small ( maybe 1/8" or smaller) chips and dings in the egdes of the blades. Is this enough to reduce performance or cause problems ?

    trim gauge

I have a 1997 seaswirl striper that has a bad trim guage. I am at a loss on how to determine what brand it is or where to find one. Any Ideas I would like to keep it at least somewhat matching with the other gauges and of course it has to be matched for resistance with the sender. I have the...

    Water drain plug Sx

I finally got the water drain plug removed from my 97 SX drive. It was alot easier to remove with the pivot housing on the bench. The plastic nipple was cracked probably from previous freezing. The plug is pretty beat up after removing and I was trying to order a new one. The schematics that I...

VP SX Trim cylinder pivot shaft

Ive removed my drive every year for the last 5 years that I have owned my boat. My question is should it be extremely difficult to remove the pivot shaft for the trim cylinders ? Every year I have to beat it out with a slide hammer and it usually will be stuck to the last couple of inches. I...
