Alpha 1 Gen 1 Impeller Replacement

Yes, this was on the trailer. I've had it on the water, but it was overheating, that's why I changed the impeller. So I have not had it on the water since changing the impeller. It seems like forward gear is wound too tight, and reverse is too loose.

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Impeller Replacement

Good evening all. So I am not a v-blogger or anything close to it, but I do wish I had recorded myself rebuilding this 1989 and 16 ft thundercraft ski boat with a 2.5 l m mercruiser and alpha 1 Gen 1 Stern drive. It has been quite the adventure since February. But I have it all back together...

    Carb troubles

You are not wrong. I took The carburetor back apart, and noticed that the gasket was rubbing against the float. So I fixed it, put it all back together, and it is running better than ever. Which I attribute not to me, but to the new spark plugs. The carburetor seems to be working perfectly fine...

    Carb troubles

Not it won't start at all. I took the carb off and see fuel (just a veneer) under the carb. I wonder if I'm not just flooding it with gas.

    Carb troubles

My boat stated but would die as I went "full throttle". Actually before I got to "full". I could pump the throttle back and forth really quickly and sort of prime the engine until the throttle was open, although top speed was never achieved and I had to do it every time from idle. I figured...

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Sterndrive install

So all worked out. I was right - I didn't have the shift cable screwed in far enough on the bell housing. Also, by specs on the shift cable were off. Not by much, but enough. The boat starts, idles, and goes into forward and reverse gears! Now to put in carpet, fix the fuel gauge, touch up gel...

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Sterndrive install

Sorry for all the typos! I'm doing speech to text and I didn't edit. Ugh.

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Sterndrive install

Yes, I noticed that it was easy to move because the stern drive is so heavy and it's easy to bump it. I think though, that I did not have the shift cable screwed all the way into the bell housing so it was not engaging reverse.

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Sterndrive install

Thanks for. The gaskets I was referring to are the two gaskets on the drive shaft that go inside the gimbal bearing. I greased those and it made for in your impossible removal. But I did get it back out, that is the stern drive. Everything seems to be in proper order with the stern drive, I...

Alpha 1 Gen 1 Sterndrive install

Hello all. I'm a new member and am rebuilding a 1989 Thundercraft with a 2.5 Mercruiser with a Gen 1 sterndrive. I have everything back on the transom (it's been a total rebuild but not engine rebuild) and put the sterndrive on tonight. It gave me some trouble ( mistakenly greased the gaskets...
