Good point but the 18-6777 motor and related parts are mostly the same on Mercury, Mercury Mariner and Force motors in the mid-1990's so it's the same setup basically. I was trying to be helpful and see if someone had some ideas on how to fix this common issue with these pre-yellow cap 3 wire...
